Myrtle Grove Animal Hospital
 The Team

Doctors

Dr. Christian A. Bolz received his B.S. degree from North Carolina State University and continued on to earn his veterinary degree from Tuskegee University in 1998. After spending several years gaining experience as an associate small animal veterinarian in New Jersey and Massachusetts, Dr. Bolz moved to North Carolina to be closer to family and warmer weather. For over 3 years he has practiced emergency medicine at Animal Emergency and Trauma Hospital in Wilmington, broadening his skills in emergency surgery and critical care.

Dr. Debbie Bolz received her B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1991. She attended veterinary school at Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine (98’) and went on to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following her internship, Dr. Bolz practiced as an associate veterinarian at high quality, progressive hospitals in New Jersey and Massachusetts. After moving to Wilmington, North Carolina, she has been a relief veterinarian for several local animal hospitals.

Myrtle Grove Animal Hospital has been a goal and dream of Drs. Christian and Debbie Bolz since they met during veterinary school in 1997. They love living in Wilmington, where they share their home with their 3 children, a terrier mix named Lily and 2 cats (Rudy and Spot). They are excited to be an active part of their community and provide exceptional veterinary service.

Veterinary Technicians

Josh Williams has been working in the veterinary field for six years. He has been involved with both large and small animal medicine, including some exotic work with birds and reptiles. He has spent the last 2 years working in a small animal emergency hospital where he has improved his technical skills and gained extensive experience with monitoring anesthesia, radiology, and emergency and critical patient care. Animals are an important part of Josh’s life. He shares his home with 9 dogs (Doogie, Opal Jasper, Nettie, Link Link, Maggie, Doddie, and Johnny), an indoor aviary full of happy birds, a flock of chickens, 10 cats, 4 turtles, 2 ferrets and an old pig named Daisy Mae. In his free time, Josh enjoys gardening and spending time on the water (canoeing and boating). He is proud to be a native of Wilmington, but has a life-long dream to work at the California Raptor Center.

Nicole Ward has worked in the veterinary field for six years both as a veterinary assistant and a receptionist. She graduated from Campbell University in 1996 with a B.A. in Mass Communications and a minor in Graphic Design. She is currently enrolled in San Juan College’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program where she plans to obtain an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. Proud to be a Wilmington native, Nicole lives with her husband, Paul, and their seven feline children: Gouhly, Cassius, Henderson, Mercer, Anthony, Julius and Morris. In her spare time, she enjoys competitive running, gardening, reading, and volunteering with a local animal welfare group.

Katie Bell recently moved to Wilmington after spending the past 2 years at home in Northern Virginia. She graduated from UNC Greensboro in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology accompanied by a minor in Sociology. After graduation Katie began working for a veterinary hospital in Vienna, VA and continued her education part-time at George Mason University. Because animals are her passion, her ultimate aspiration is to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. Katie currently shares her home with her boyfriend, Shane, 2 crazy dogs (Berkeley and Max) and an adorable kitten named Cupcake (adopted from Myrtle Grove Animal Hospital!) In her spare time, she enjoys reading, relaxing at the beach, taking her dogs for a walk, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers.

Bria Durnell is originally from Parkersburg, WV where she graduated from West Virginia University in 2001.  Bria moved to Wilmington in October 2009 to be closer to family after living in Savannah, GA for 6 years.  Shortly after moving to Savannah, she began working at a veterinary clinic for 2 years as a receptionist.  Bria is happy to be back in the field and hopes to aquire the skills necessary to become a veterinary assistant as well.  In her spare time she enjoys going to the beach, swimming and watching movies.  Occasionally, you can find Bria as an extra on the set of One Tree Hill.
